Bacoli Wedding Planner
Italy's Most Underrated Wedding Destination
Every couple who discovers Bacoli asks the same thing: why has no one told us about this before? The answer is simple, this part of Campania has been overlooked by the international wedding market almost entirely. And that, for the couples who find it, is exactly the point.
Bacoli sits on the Phlegraean Fields (Campi Flegrei) west of Naples, a volcanic landscape of ancient craters, coastal lakes, and Roman ruins that stretches to the sea at Capo Miseno. It is a place where history is not in a museum but underfoot, literally: the ground here has been inhabited since the Greeks arrived in the 8th century BC, and the Romans who followed turned this coastline into their preferred holiday destination, building villas, cisterns, thermal baths, and harbours that are still visible today.
I am Giuliana, a destination wedding planner based in Campania. Bacoli is part of my home territory, and I know it the way you can only know a place you have worked in for years: its light, its logistics, its extraordinary venues, and the quiet pride its people take in welcoming visitors who have come to appreciate something genuinely rare.
If you are considering a destination wedding or civil ceremony near Naples that is not the Amalfi Coast, this is the most interesting and most undervalued option in southern Italy.
Why Bacoli is Perfect for an Intimate Wedding
The Campi Flegrei area contains some of the most extraordinary ancient Roman architecture in Italy — the sunken ruins of Baia, the Piscina Mirabilis (the largest ancient Roman cistern ever found), and the crumbling grandeur of an entire ancient coastline slowly returning to the sea.
Lago Fusaro, a coastal lagoon connected to the sea by a narrow channel, offers extraordinary reflective light at golden hour and a sense of complete stillness. The Casina Vanvitelliana — a royal hunting lodge built in 1782, sitting alone on a small island in the lake — is one of the most unexpected and beautiful civil ceremony venues in all of Campania.
For couples who want a civil ceremony near Naples without the logistics of the Amalfi Coast, Bacoli is the answer. It is accessible, genuinely beautiful, and almost entirely undiscovered by the international wedding market.
Ceremony Venues in Bacoli and the Campi Flegrei
La Casina Vanvitelliana the island lodge on the lake
The Casina Vanvitelliana is the most magical ceremony setting in the entire Campi Flegrei area, and one of the most surprising in all of Campania. Built in 1782 by architect Luigi Vanvitelli for King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon as a royal hunting and fishing lodge, it sits alone on a small island in Lago Fusaro, connected to the shore by a curved wooden jetty.
To reach it, you cross the water. The arrival alone by small boat or along the jetty at dusk — is a ceremony in itself. The Casina is a three-level neoclassical structure with large glazed windows that reflect the lake. At golden hour, the light on the water here is genuinely extraordinary. This is one of the authorised venues for civil ceremonies in Bacoli, which means a legally binding marriage can take place in this setting: a combination of architecture, history, and landscape that is almost impossible to find anywhere else in Italy at this scale of intimacy.
Coastal Villas and Beach Venues
Bacoli's coastline includes a number of private villa and resort venues with direct sea access, infinity terraces over the Gulf, and views that take in Capri, Ischia, Procida, and Vesuvius simultaneously and others with its panoramic garden overlooking the Gulf, on the Miseno promontory are among the most photogenic. For beach ceremonies with immediate access to the sea and the sunset line over the islands, are exceptional.
Civil Ceremonies in Bacoli: A Practical Guide for Foreign Couples
The Comune di Bacoli is cooperative and experienced in hosting civil ceremonies for international couples. The legal process follows the Italian standard: declaration of intent submitted to the civil registry, documents prepared and translated in advance, ceremony conducted in Italian with a certified interpreter present if required.
Authorised venues for civil ceremonies in Bacoli currently include the Casina Vanvitelliana and the Sala Consiliare (council chamber) of the Palazzo Municipale. For peak dates — particularly May through October — I recommend beginning the administrative process at least four months in advance.
For US couples: A Certificate of No Legal Impediment obtained through the US Embassy in Rome or the US Consulate in Naples, plus valid passport and translated birth certificate.
For UK couples: A Certificate of No Impediment (CNI) issued and apostilled in the UK, plus sworn Italian translation and a statutory declaration.
For Australian couples: A Certificate of No Impediment issued through the Australian Embassy or consulate in Italy, plus standard document set.
I manage the entire Italian-side administrative process — from the initial contact with the Comune to the sworn translation coordination, interpreter booking, and day-of logistics. You arrive in Bacoli with your documents prepared; I handle everything else.
How to Get to Bacoli: Logistics for International Guests
Bacoli is approximately 30 kilometres west of Naples Capodichino airport. By private transfer, the journey takes 35–45 minutes. Public transport options include the Cumana train line from Naples, which terminates at Torregaveta — a scenic coastal railway that many guests find unexpectedly enjoyable.
From central Naples, a private boat can reach the Bacoli coastline directly — a spectacular arrival option that I arrange for couples and small groups. The Gulf of Pozzuoli is calmer than the open sea, making boat transfers comfortable even for guests who are not confident on the water.
For guest accommodation, the Bacoli area has a growing range of options at every level. I coordinate accommodation blocks for wedding parties and can advise on the properties that offer the best combination of quality, views, and proximity to ceremony venues.
A Sample Day in Bacoli
Late afternoon arrival at the Casina Vanvitelliana by wooden boat across Lago Fusaro, with a string duo playing on the jetty. A civil ceremony in the lodge as the light turns gold on the lake. An aperitivo on the terrace overlooking the water, with Vesuvius on the horizon and Ischia in the distance. Dinner at a restored masseria in the volcanic hills, with local wine and food that uses no ingredient that did not come from Campania. This is the kind of evening that Bacoli makes possible unhurried, genuinely local, and unlike anything your guests will have experienced before.
Why Work with a Local Campanian Planner for Your Bacoli Wedding
Bacoli is not a place where you can succeed with a list of vendors pulled from a directory. The venues that matter here are not on the standard platforms. The authorisations for private use of the Casina Vanvitelliana, the photographers who know exactly where the light falls at 6pm in September — these are things built over years of working in this territory.
I specialise in weddings with up to 30 guests. Every couple I work with in Bacoli gets my full attention and the benefit of genuine local expertise. If this area resonates with you, I would love to talk about what is possible here.
