What to Expect From a Discovery Call With Me

If you are planning a wedding in Italy, especially from abroad, booking your first call with a wedding planner can feel like a bigger step than it actually is.

You might wonder what you are supposed to prepare, what questions you will be asked, or whether the conversation will turn into a sales pitch.
It does not have to.

A discovery call is simply an opportunity for us to talk about your wedding, understand what you are looking for, and see whether we would be a good fit to work together.

Here is what you can expect.

A discovery call is a conversation, not a sales pitch

The purpose of a discovery call is not to convince you to book a wedding planner on the spot.

It is a chance for me to understand who you are as a couple, what you are imagining for your wedding in Italy, and what is important to you.

It is also an opportunity for you to get to know me and understand how I work.

Planning a wedding is a very personal process, especially when you are planning from another country. You should feel comfortable asking questions, talking through ideas and being honest about what you do and do not know yet.

You do not need to have everything figured out before the call.

What will we talk about during the call?

Every conversation is a little different, but there are a few things I will usually ask about.

Your wedding vision I will want to hear what you are imagining for the day. Maybe you already have a very clear vision, or maybe you only know that you want a small wedding overlooking the sea in Italy. Both are completely fine. We might talk about the atmosphere you want, the type of setting you love, how you want the day to feel and what matters most to you.

Your guest list I will ask approximately how many people you are considering inviting. You do not need a final guest list. An estimate is enough to start understanding which destinations, venues and types of celebration could work for you.

Your date or timeframe If you already have a wedding date, we will discuss it. If you are still deciding between a few months or seasons, that is useful to know too. Your timing can affect venue availability, weather, travel and accommodation, so it is one of the pieces of information that helps shape the conversation.

Where you are in the planning process Some couples contact me before they have chosen anything. Others already have a venue, a date or even a few vendors in mind.

There is no right stage to be at when you book a discovery call. You can come to the conversation with a blank page, a Pinterest board or a venue already saved on your phone.

What should you prepare before the call?

Nothing complicated.
It can be helpful to have a rough idea of:
• Your preferred wedding date or season
• Approximate guest count
• The destination or destinations you are considering
• What you would love your wedding to feel like
• Any venues you already have in mind
• Your main questions about planning a wedding in Italy

But you do not need a detailed brief.
If you are still trying to understand whether you want to get married in Positano, Capri, Amalfi, Sorrento or somewhere completely different, that is exactly the kind of thing we can talk through.

What can you ask your wedding planner?

The call is not just about me asking you questions.

You should use the opportunity to understand how I work and what the planning experience would actually look like.

You might want to ask:

• How does your planning process work?
• How involved will we be in the decisions?
• What do you handle directly?
• How do you communicate with couples who live abroad?
• How do you help with venues and vendors?
• What happens after we decide to work together?
• What can we realistically plan for our guest count and preferred destination?

And if there is something you are unsure about, ask.

There are no silly questions when you are planning a wedding in another country.

What happens after the discovery call?

There is no expectation that you need to make a decision during the call. After our conversation, you should have a clearer idea of what your wedding could look like, what the next steps would be and whether my approach feels right for you.
If we both feel that we are a good fit, I will explain the next steps and how we can move forward. And if we are not the right fit, that is okay too.
Choosing your wedding planner is a personal decision. You should work with someone you trust and feel comfortable communicating with throughout the entire planning process.

Why the first conversation matters

When you are planning a wedding in Italy from thousands of miles away, having someone you can trust locally makes a real difference. A discovery call gives you a chance to see how a planner communicates, how they approach your ideas and whether they actually listen to what you want. It is also where I can start understanding the details that make your wedding yours rather than simply suggesting a standard list of venues or vendors.
For me, the goal is not to fit you into a package. It is to understand what you are looking for and see how I can help bring it together.
